Reviews and Evaluations of the Nokta Makro Simplex Plus Metal Detector

Competitors are resentful, but they respect it; treasure hunters buy it, use it, and recommend it to others – and this is a decisive factor for any model of metal detector. Several years have passed since its release. The latest Nokta Macro Simplex Plus device caused a big stir upon launch and grew in popularity after reaching the hands of treasure hunters and being field-tested. Everyone was eagerly waiting for the release of the new Turkish device, and through the few advertisements.

But its performance in all these aspects was not known. Now, however, there are highly positive reviews from users, tests, and videos. You may have heard something about the capabilities of Nocta Macro Simplex, or maybe not. Looking at the individual standards is pointless, because we won't get the full picture. So, let's take a closer look at the Nocta Macro Simplex Plus.

Let's start with the basic design of a metal detector. The device relies on a straight telescopic shaft (lengths ranging from 63 to 132 cm). The handle features an integrated vibration system that activates upon detecting a target, making it suitable for underwater use, where ambient noise can mask the sound of the detector. The search coil is located at the bottom of the shaft, while the control unit is positioned at the top. The assembled detector weighs 1.3 kg, making it lightweight and compact. The device has a built-in wireless unit and is sold in two types: a basic version without wireless headphones, and the WHP version with wireless headphones. Additionally, underwater headphones (brand or third-party) are available, sold separately. Extra coils, either larger or smaller than the included ones, are also available.

The detector comes equipped with a large, waterproof 11-inch DoubleD search coil with a cover, which is rare in beginner metal detectors. This coil size provides excellent target detection depth and the cover prevents minor mechanical damage and scratches. This coil size is only available in more expensive detector models, and users usually have to purchase a larger coil separately for beginner detectors. Initially, the coil had a slightly different design, with the sides connected by bridges, but in January 2021, the coils started shipping without bridges, and the coil cover design also changed.

One of the most important questions people ask about the Nokta Makro Simplex Plus metal detector is its search depth

Thanks to its large 28 cm coil included in the standard package and its powerful battery, it can be said that the Simplex is the deepest metal detector in its class. However, it is important to remember that the depth of any metal detector depends on the target size and many other search conditions. For example, the Simplex can detect a military helmet, a package, and similarly sized objects — that is, any large metal — at a depth of 80 to 120 cm, and possibly deeper if it is raining and the soil is wet and electrically conductive. Smaller targets, such as the size of a palm or fist, can be detected at a depth of 30 to 60 cm.

Coins and other small objects can consistently be detected at a depth of 30 to 40 cm. If you are searching for lost jewelry on the beach or underwater, the detection depth will decrease further, but this is not a concern. No one deliberately buries these lost items underground; they are almost on the surface or at most a few centimeters underground. The Simplex will detect them effortlessly.

All electronics of the Simplex device are housed in a waterproof rectangular enclosure, resembling a smartphone design, with a few buttons above the screen. These buttons are engineered to remain secure and leak-resistant even at depths of up to 3 meters. Units with a similar design are available in premium metal detectors such as the Minelab Equinox or XP Deus/ORX.

The Nokta Makro device is known for its quick response to user feedback, and most reviews have found this design to be highly practical and successful, to the extent that Nokta Makro plans to launch its new multi-frequency detector in this enclosure. The back of the control unit features a waterproof speaker, a handheld LED light for night or underwater use, and a jack with a protective cover for connecting underwater headphones.
