Comparison between the Minelab X-Terra 705 vs Minelab Vanquish 540

It may be difficult to find a metal detector that hasn't been compared to the Minelab X-Terra 705 - which indicates that over the years spent in the field, the X-Terra 705 has become a standard, a semi-professional 'industrial' metal detector that can be used in any search, in any soil, and always returns home with results in your pocket.

There are many metal detectors that have been released and have quietly passed by, but this is not the case with the Minelab X-Terra 705, which can always be found in the fields, on archaeological search and excavation missions, on the beach, and in the forest, appearing in many photos of explorers' trips in the 'Discoveries' or 'Our Trips' sections.

In its category, this device became legendary, much like the Garrett ACE 250 among beginner metal detectors. But in 2019, a revolution occurred. The Australian company Minelab, the 'father' of the 705 device, fulfilled the dream of most treasure hunters by equipping them with the high-performance, proprietary Multi-IQ technology in three devices from the Vanquish series: 340, 440, and 540, all at prices suitable for beginner and mid-range detectors. Never before in the history of metal detecting have we witnessed such a generous gift.

It was a real revolution. Now, you no longer have to save up to buy the famous multi-frequency detectors from Minelab, which have dominated the market for many years, and then spend a long time adjusting their settings (some never succeeded). Now, even with a very modest budget (which before the release of the Vanquish series was limited to an ICQ device, at best with an additional file), you can buy a multi-frequency detector. With all its advantages, and without complex settings or algorithms, the device works as follows: turn it on, choose a mode, and then start searching.

As we know, every revolution brings changes in authority, leadership, and institutions. With the release of the Fanfish 540 metal detector, the established position of the X-Terra 705 device was shaken, and doubts began to creep into the minds of treasure hunters about its significance and effectiveness. The announcement by Minelab that the "Minelab Fanfish" metal detectors would replace the long-standing "Minelab X-Terra" series of metal detectors further exacerbated the situation.

This article does not aim to highlight either device, as there is no bad device; each has its strengths and weaknesses, unique features, and useful characteristics. Therefore, today we will conduct an objective comparative analysis of the functions, settings, options, accessories, technical features, and capabilities of the latest models from the "Minelab Fanfish" and "Minelab X-Terra" series: the legendary "Minelab X-Terra 705" and the innovative "Minelab Fanfish 540," a strong contender for the title of "the new legend." This will allow us to objectively study the strengths and weaknesses, hidden capabilities, secrets, and precise operational characteristics.
